Robert Barnes is an architect in private practice starting in 1988, it has produced over 450 designs for buildings both in the UK and abroad. Currently the work consists of several private houses and an Artist’s Studio in London. Since 1992 Robert has been a Senior Lecturer in Theory and Design currently teaching Diploma Unit 6 in the School of Art Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University, under the umbrella of the Architecture of Rapid Change and Scarce Resources, where study and research continues into the ongoing refugee and migrant crisis in Athens Greece. Personal research into the role of hand drawing and sketching will be presented shortly at the forthcoming Drawing Symposium held at the London Metropolitan University on the 4th November 2022.

The potential subject of Ignazio Gardella arose during the pandemic and remote teaching when a serendipitous find of a photograph of the Interior of the Gallery of Modern Art, Collection Grassi, Milan, in Domus (No.353, 1959, p.23–28) and a staircase, led to contact with a Milanese Furniture collector, and the rest, as they say is, history …
