INTEGRATED COMMUNITIES
The scheme looks into the refugee crisis in relation to the NGO ‘Steps’. Due to the increasing
refugees entering the country, Steps are predicted to not have the facilities to keep up with demand.
The proposal expands upon the existing infrastructure of the NGO and creates a space for other
NGOS to collaborate in one space, creating a network of support for the refugee. The infrastructure
is expanded by the creation of a warehouse, office, open kitchen and access into the existing
polykatoikia. As the existing polykatoikia have low living standards, they are left vacant by the local
Greeks. Therefore, using the existing infrastructure, the scheme looks into giving access into the
residential spaces from the square. As there are many elements into the proposal, a square to pull
them all and allows it to be one large place. A place where refugees can find support.
