Each of the sites in Battersea were studied in detail in their physical condition.These surveys function as tools for understanding each site and its context. It is the process of their drawing that is of particular interest, and considered in this context as the first act of design.
To quote Eva Prats: “it is when you draw the context over and over that it becomes yours, and so an addition develops in an almost organic manner” (Register 07, 2017). It is the understanding of each existing tile, brick, wall, and window that has in large part defined the language of the Unit’s proposals.
