New Project: Petticoat Lane Banners
Liveness 2020 (Archive)
We’re excited to announce that we’ll be working with City of London and Tower Hamlets public realm teams for a joint public realm project from October 2020. This collaboration follows work that Interiors have been doing on the Middlesex Street Estate and Petticoat Lane traders, and work that Textiles have done with Toynbee Hall sewing and knitting groups.
Following community workshops, BA Textiles students will produce six large format banners for lampposts in Wentworth Street. James Hunting and Karen Coughlan’s BA Textile Design students will work with outputs produced by local artist led workshops at local schools and other community groups in Aldgate such as Toynbee Hall’s Wellbeing Centre, and local youth groups.
The project hails the start of the Petticoat Lane public realm programme, joint Tower Hamlets and City of London works to improve facilities and streetscape for Petticoat Lane market, which sits directly on the boundary between the two authorities. We look forward to the changes to come outside our Goulston Street building and the neighbouring streets.
